Our rapid expansion meant we needed a system that could keep pace with our growing operations. With RedEye, we could streamline document management
and ensure every site is on the same page”–Matthew Ponomarenko, Principal Reliability Engineer, Stanmore Resources
Stanmore Resources is a leading Australian metallurgical coal producer, operating in Queensland’s Bowen and Surat Basins. The company’s portfolio includes three major coal-producing assets: South Walker Creek, Poitrel, and the Isaac Plains Complex. With a combined annual production capacity of million tonnes of high-quality metallurgical coal, Stanmore Resources plays a crucial role in the global steelmaking supply chain.
The company has built a strong reputation for developing, operating, and rehabilitating coal resources. Its strategic location in the Bowen Basin allows it to maximize efficiency by leveraging shared operating infrastructure across its assets, reducing ramp-up risks and increasing production potential. These world-class, long-life assets form the backbone of Stanmore’s operations, ensuring the company’s continued success in the competitive global market.
Stanmore Resources’ rapid growth highlighted critical engineering document management (EDM) challenges. Its first site (Isaac Plains, acquired in 2015) had underdeveloped EDM practices. This issue was exacerbated when, in 2022, Stanmore Resources acquired South Walker Creek and Poitrel mines. Bringing multiple sites together resulted in a huge increase in engineering assets to manage. This increase in workload prevented the asset management team from spending the time needed on governance.
The engineers at the South Walker Creek and Poitrel sites were facing challenges with their current system, leading to underutilization. Electrical engineering managers responsible for statutory compliance were dissatisfied with the approval processes, and project workflows, along with metadata systems, lacked the robustness needed to support Stanmore’s growing operations. They required a more unified, user-friendly solution, which led them to RedEye.
In 2025, Stanmore Resources migrated all sites to RedEye, a solution tailored to meet the company’s growing needs. RedEye’s features addressed Stanmore’s challenges comprehensively, offering:
RedEye’s implementation delivered transformative outcomes for Stanmore Resources. The Isaac Plains Complex transitioned from minimal EDM capabilities to a robust system, while documentation for Poitrel’s coal handling and processing plant, as well as the Millennium project, was efficiently loaded into RedEye. This provided the unified EDM system this multi-site company needed.
The move to RedEye has streamlined the approvals process. Specifically, enhanced metadata systems enabled quick and accurate document retrieval, significantly boosting efficiency. Additionally, automated workflows resolved bottlenecks in the approvals process, improving turnaround times.
As a result, engineers can now seamlessly link with drafters, fostering better collaboration. Perhaps most importantly, because of all these improvements, it is now far easier and faster for Stanmore Resources to meet - and report on - its regulatory obligations.
Different operating models at each site, rapid growth and inherited challenges with the systems meant change was necessary. We needed one unified system across all sites that worked for our engineers and the business.”
-Matthew Ponomarenko, Principal Reliability Engineer, Stanmore Resources
